(Bend) – Tickets are now available to tour the best Christmas collection in Bend! The “I’ll Be Home For Christmas Home Tour” returns and has been expanded to two days, December 5 and 6, 10 am to 4 pm. The tour features the private home and Christmas collection of Susan Jorgensen, Museum conservator and avid Christmas collector. All proceeds directly support the photography department at the Des Chutes Historical Museum.

Susan installs over 25 decorated trees in her home, a nutcracker collection and handmade quilts and wall hangings. Collecting Christmas decorations for over 40 years, her collection is so large some items rotate on an every-other-year schedule. Her decorations span over 100 years, featuring antique glass and Hallmark, with themes ranging from the traditional to contemporary.

Tours will be held at 21163 Clairaway Avenue, located West of 27th between Reed Market and Bear Creek Roads.

Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased in advance at the Des Chutes Historical Museum or at the door during the event. A drawing to win a handmade Christmas wall hanging or a Hallmark Christmas Ornament Gift Bag is included with ticket purchase.

CASCADES THEATRICAL COMPANY
FUNDRAISING DRIVE

Cascades Theatrical Company (CTC) is initiating a fundraising drive starting November 15, 2008, beginning with the dramatic readings of a new play “Conversations With My Wife” by Leonard Gross (contact CTC for tickets). We need to raise $30,000 in donations or pledges by December 31, 2008 or we will be forced to close our doors. The economic failure of Wall Street has affected all of us and everyone is tightening their financial belts. The collapse of the housing market has taken a serious toll on Bend business. These crises have dealt CTC a severe blow as well.

Corporate donations and sponsorships are at an all time low and CTC has to do some very serious fundraising to be able to meet budget this season. You probably know that ticket sales only cover about 75 percent of our costs and we depend on donations (Corporate and Individual) to keep the Company solvent. CTC is actively applying for Grants, Challenge Grants and Sponsorships (which are also affected by the economy) and we find that we must turn to our community members and patrons for help before our savings are depleted. So please do what you can to help Your Community Theatre that has been serving Central Oregon theatre patrons and volunteers since 1978.

You could help in several ways: by making a donation or a pledge to CTC yourself; asking a friend to become a member of CTC; or, by talking to a business that you frequent about becoming a sponsor (we have an information packet available for your use). It is the season for end of the year giving and hopefully you or a friend will consider giving to CTC. Remember: CTC is a 501 (c) 3 corporation and all donations are tax deductible.

Just a quick note to update and remind you of a few events going on in the store this week:

MONDAY, December 1 at 6:30 … the store book club discusses our November pick, which was Nancy Horan’s LOVING FRANK. This book has been a best-seller in the store, so I’m sure many of you have read it. And as far as discussion books go, this one certainly offers up plenty topics. The book club is open to all, so if you’ve read the book please feel free to join us for wine and free-flowing conversation. Our December pick is HANNAH’S DREAM by local author Diane Hammond. Hammond will join our book discussion on January 12 at 6:30.

TUESDAY, December 2 at 6:30 … What are you passionate about? With the book THE PASSION TEST, authors Janet Bray Attwood and Chris Attwood strive to help people discover the top five things they are passionate about and then show them how to achieve them in their lives. This Tuesday local Passion Test facilitator Dusty Niles is in the store to discuss The Passion Test and how you can apply its principles to your life.

WEDNESDAY, December 3 at 3:00 … story time!

THURSDAY, December 4 at 6:30 … Join counselor, artist and expressive arts facilitator Karen Castelbaum for another adverturous playshop: PRAYER FLAGS AND BANNERS: BLESSING SELF, BLESSING OTHERS. During this evening participants are encouraged to playfully express the essence of what matters to you most in words and images as you create your own prayer flag or banner. Stop by Camalli Book Co. to see the current “Banners and Prayer Flags” art display. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED to participate in this playshop; the cost is $30. Contact the store to register.

“SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED” OPENS AT CTC

“Some Assembly Required” by Canadian playwright Eugene Stickland will open on Friday, December 5th, at Cascades Theatrical Company. The play was nominated for a prestigious Governor General’s Award. This will be Jared Rasic’s debut as co-director with Lana Shane. The “fully functional” cast includes: Michael Coffman, Jenn Copsey, Jordan Parsons, Janis Sharpe and Don Tompos. The opening night performance will be followed by a complimentary champagne and dessert reception.

Some Assembly Required (1994), is a lighthearted but deeply moving portrayal of a dysfunctional family at Christmas. A family of grown children and aging parents gathers reluctantly, even accidentally, at the family home on Christmas Eve. As the children hole up in the basement drinking eggnog, their parents retreat into their neuroses upstairs. Each character, and the family as a whole, is crippled by guilt over the failure to live up to expectations. The play shows how our obsession with making Christmas “the most wonderful time of the year” is precisely what makes it so unpleasant for so many people, and it continues to be popular precisely because it speaks to this common experience of the holidays.

The show will open December 5th and run through December 21st. Performances will be Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays at 2 pm. Additional matinees on Saturday December 13th and 20th at 2 pm. Get involved in YOUR Community Theatre’s 30th Anniversary Season!

Friday, November 21, 6:00 p.m. - Book discussion and signing with author George Byron Wright. Wright is the author of the Oregon Trio of novels, which includes BAKER CITY 1948, TILLAMOOK 1952, and ROSEBURG 1959. Each of Wright’s novels is set into motion by actual traumatic events that rock the three towns. In Baker City two women were killed in the late ’40s and their murders were never solved. The huge forest fire near Tillamook in 1933 is still considered one of the fiercest in U.S. history. And in 1959 Roseburg’s city center was nearly obliterated when a truckload of explosives blew up in the center of town.

Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding is an interactive event where the audience is the wedding party. The fun starts with the nuptial celebration of Tony Nunzio and Valentina Vitale and then leads to the reception where the audience joins the wedding party and their bickering families for a pasta dinner, champagne toast, wedding cake and dancing.

Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding has become one of the most popular and longest running Off-Broadway productions in history. This 2nd Street Theater production will be held at the Bend Community Center at 5th and Kearney, directly behind the Humane Society Thrift Store.
