TREE LIGHTING SCHEDULED
Mark your calendars as we get ready for the holidays. This year, visits with Santa will happen at The Patio between Starbuck’s and North Soles on Wall Street. We want to send a big thanks to Bud and Carmen Capell for offering the space & North Soles for helping out. Santa will be there on Saturdays from 12-4 between Thanksgiving and Christmas-11/29, 12/6 (Christmas Parade at 12pm), 12/13 & 12/20.

The tree lighting will be held again the day after Thanksgiving on Friday, November 28th at 6p. We will have choirs, music, Santa and more. Please bring the family down for this wonderful event.

A festive display of lighting and decorations will be installed this year that’ll be sure to impress. Decorations should be completed around just before Thanksgiving with lights being turned on the tree lighting day (Friday after Thanksgiving).

Sense-Sational Saturdays Begins this
Saturday with BUGS!

The popular children’s program Sense-Sational
Saturdays kicks off this Saturday and is all about bugs!
Sense-Sational Saturdays is a fun
and educational day just for children and
their families.  Each Sense-Sational
Saturday features dramatic encounters with wildlife, hands-on
crafts and activities, stories, games, and
demonstrations.  Programs occur one Saturday per month
from October through March, each with a specific theme. 
10am - 3pm.  Free for members or with paid
admission.

October 18 2008: “Bugs!”
Children investigate the world of insects, spiders and
other spineless creatures through up-close investigations,
crafts and games. Families can explore the new BUGS! Exhibit,
learn about bug life cycles and observe live critters.

November 15,  2008: “Pioneer
Pastimes”
Children explore the toys and games of the Pioneer
times and the Old West. Families can experience life in the
1800’s through hands-on activities and crafts.

December 13, 2008: “Creatures of the
Night”
As the days are getting dark, learn about the animals
that are most active at night. Explore the world of bats, owls,
and other nocturnal animals through activities, crafts and
games.

January 17, 2009: “Magnificent Mammals”
The world of High Desert mammals are featured during
this Saturday, with a variety of furry friends on hand, from
the cuddly to the fierce, the soft to the spiny. Activities
include games, crafts, and up-close encounters with mammals of
the High Desert.

February 14, 2009: “Native
Americans”
Children celebrate Native American culture by making cordage,
learning about rock art, exploring the traditions of the
Columbia Plateau tribes, and more!

March 14, 2009: “Migration
Sense-Sation”
Children participate in activities designed to welcome
migrating birds back to the High Desert. Children learn about
what it takes to accomplish long migratory journeys through
hands-on projects, games, crafts and activities that they could
also try at home.

Wagon Tours Return For Museum’s Annual Holiday Bazaar and Chili Feed

(Bend) – The Des Chutes Historical Museum’s
Annual Holiday Bazaar and Chili Feed is set for Friday and Saturday, November
14 and 15, 2008. Vintage wagon tours of the Drake Park historic neighborhood
will be offered on Saturday, November 15 from 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

People can get their Christmas shopping done early and
savor a bowl of legendary Millie’s Chili for lunch! Shopping starts at
10:00 a.m. and chili is served at 11:00 a.m.. Admission to the Bazaar is free,
the chili and cornbread lunch costs only $5.50.

Six, twenty-minute wagon tours will be offered on the
half-hour, beginning at 11:30 p.m. Wagon ride tickets are $6, children five and
under are free when riding on their parent’s lap. Wagon ride tickets will be
available at the Bazaar.

The Historical Museum will close Tuesday, November 11
through Thursday, November 13 in preparation for this annual event.

The holiday bazaar features collectibles and antiques in
Grandma’s Attic, used and rare books, and best of all-handmade crafts and
baked goods made by Museum members, volunteers, and staff. For over 20 years,
the Annual Bazaar has supported the Deschutes County Historical Society. Funds
raised support new museum exhibits, collections care, programming and staff
support.

Nick is a single Italian-American guy from New Jersey. His parents retired and moved to Florida leaving him in New Jersey with both sets of his Italian immigrant grandparents. To them there is nothing more important than “Tengo Famiglia”. During the usual Sunday dinner at Frank and Aida’s, Nick must tell the four of them of his plans to accept his dream job that will take him away from his family. This begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around, including introducing him to the lovely and single, Caitlin O’Hare.

This is a hilarious and heartwarming family comedy by Joe DiPietro who also wrote I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. Directed by Susan Benson and Douglas Hildebrand, assisted by Sandy Klein and featuring Susan Benson, Jenny Boyd, Rick Jenkins, Caleb Neet, Timothy Pflum and Maralyn Thoma.

2nd Street Theater is changing from general admission seating to reserved seating with this production. Patrons can now choose their own seats through the online ticketing system via the website 2ndstreettheater.com. All service fees to use the online system have been covered in the ticket price.

OPB’s THINK OUT LOUD Comes to Bend!

THINK OUT LOUD, OPB’s daily call-in program about all things Oregon, will
record a live show the evening of Monday, October 6 to air on Wednesday, October 8 at 9am on OPB. The conversation will focus on Central Oregon’s economic ups and downs and what it means for the state’s fastest growing region.

Monday night’s live-to-tape recording will take place at the Cascades Theatrical Company, 148 NW Greenwood in Bend. Hosts Emily Harris and David Miller will take questions and comments from the live audience as well as from the THINK OUT LOUD blog. Doors open at 6:30pm and recording will begin at 7:30pm. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Seats are available on a first-come, first-seated basis.

In addition, THINK OUT LOUD will do two live shows in studio from Bend on Monday and Tuesday mornings.
