Meet the Oregon Volunteer Infantrymen sent to keep the peace among High Desert settlers. Live musket firings, military drills, authentic cooking and encampment. (And when they’re not gambling, they’ll try to recruit you!)
Historic Sawmill Fired Up!
Whistle blowin’, blade whirrin’, sawdust flyin’ fun! Experience how logs were worked by hand, and try out century-old tools. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Daily Wildlife Shows and Weekday Guided Plant Walks
Desert Dwellers Show: Swooping raptors, digging badgers and Native American animal legends, 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily.
Guided Plant Walks: Naturalist-led half-mile walk on our paved trail. Identify the healing plants of the High Desert. Observe birds and other wildlife - binoculars and field guides provided. The plant walks are in connection with the latest exhibit, Healing Power of Plants – plant medicine, from ancient traditions to modern research. Developed with nationally recognized experts, from botanists and herbalists to doctors and conservationists.
